Super Mario Galaxy 2: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) Top Quality

My boyfriend got this guide because he wanted to completely beat this game, getting every single star and unlocking every level. I helped him along the way, so I got a hands-on experience with this game, but more importantly with the guide from cover to cover, and I will warn you right now that this is not a good guidebook. It did have some good to it, but that did not outweigh how many mistakes there were.

Starting out with the good, I can say that the walkthroughs for each level were decent, and there was always a description of every boss and how to beat them. If that's all you want this guide for, then go ahead and buy it and you'll get what you want out of it.

Now, to the bad. There were just way too many mistakes in this for it to be acceptable. Many times when we were trying to get green stars, the locations they told us to look in were completely wrong, not only in the descriptions, but also on the map and the pictures they showed. This didn't happen just once, but numerous times through to the end of the game. Their suggestions of how to get them were also useless on more than one occasion. The maps they gave were decent at best, but didn't usually offer a good picture of what was going on in the level. These are only a few things I found wrong with this book, but if you look even closer you could find more. Heck, they had a picture of the wrong boss when they were talking about a boss battle! Something like that just shouldn't be let through in a final product.

This isn't the right guide for someone who expects perfection. I don't know if the writer had a different version of the game when they wrote this, but even that doesn't explain some of the glaring mistakes I found in this book. Like I said, if you want this just to get through the game one time, then this will work, because on the surface it's a decent guide. But if you want to unlock most of the levels or beat the game completely, you're better off using the internet as your guide, or at least as a companion to this book.
