The author is an amazing person who really cares about transferring meaningful knowledge to readers using effective techniques that few technical authors seem to appreciate. Rather than burying the reader under piles of "low level grunge" before they have any viable big picture or "mental mailboxes" ready to store detail, Dr. Lewis avoids all the low level stuff until the right time. Using this approach, he has the reader doing real programming within a few pages and makes the learning process fun.
