Windows 7: The Missing Manual

My credentials: 35 Software development engineer. 16 of those on/in Unix, the basis for Mac O.S. Owner/operator of many low quality Windows based machines. 7 years developing operating systems.

Considering that you chose to purchase one of the most amateurish and sloppily designed operating systems (Windows family) ever conceived, this book will offer you quite a bit of understanding and help. After reading this book, I have come to the conclusion that after several decades, Microsoft has started to get serious about embedding O.S. features/safeguards. (It's about time guys. Consider the misery that you have saddled your consumers with!) This book will explain and help you understand those as well.

A bit wordy introduction? So, is this book, to a degree. Ergo a rating of 4.
It is written for the absolute PC novice to an experienced PC user, who is upgrading to Windows 7. If you have done any development in the Microsoft environment or are a power user who finds him/herself using Windows tweaks with regularity, look for a book with more depth and terse style.
1) Organized. Begins with basics like files, folders, & how to execute a program. Systematically works through all the major features offered in all versions of Windows 7.
2) Clearly annotated. As you are introduced to features, annotations identify which version of 7 it is targeted for. At strategic and proper locations, side notes for power user tweaks of said features. Reasonable illustrations.
3) Unlike some of the "Missing Manual" series, this author logically progresses, from the simple/fundamental PC concepts, to the more complex and obscure features. This will be the biggest help for the novice user. This will be the most tedious attribute of the book, for the experience user looking for quick answers. Ergo, experienced users will find themselves skimming quickly through sections of text.
4) For the content, competitively priced.Get more detail about Windows 7: The Missing Manual.
